Dear Parents,
Happy New Year to you all and a special welcome to our new Nursery children. Next week we will be starting our new topic ‘Winter, Snow and Ice’. This topic will run for the next 5 weeks. We have lots of exciting activities planned and we are sure that the children are going to have lots of fun exploring and investigating.
As part of the topic we will be having an ‘Arctic’ role play area. We will also be having an ‘Arctic Camp’ and will be making a giant ‘igloo’ that the children can play in. To help us with this we are looking for a variety of materials and resources so that we can develop these areas:
· old white sheets or fabric
· cotton wool
· black/white furry fabric
· furry arctic animals
· old cd’s and dvd’s that you do not want to use again!!
We would like to encourage the children to bring in any books, artefacts, pictures or photos you may have that are relevant to the topic. We would love to share the artefacts your children bring in and use them on our displays or in the role play areas. Over the next couple of weeks we will be starting up the ‘Home School Books’ again, more information to follow shortly.
Every week the children will be taking part in ‘Outdoor Learning’ whatever the weather!!! We would appreciate it if you could send the following items into school in a named bag by Wednesday 10th January: a pair of warm trousers (not jeans), a pair of thick socks, a pair of gloves, a hat, waterproof trousers and wellies. Please can you ensure that ALL items of clothing (including socks and gloves are labelled) as we will wash them through in school when they get dirty. This will help the children to sort out the clothes and match them to their owners!!!
We are sending home a copy of this half term’s overview which outlines the activities the children will be undertaking. In addition to this the ‘Weekly Planning’ will be displayed in the classroom window every Monday, if you would like to know what we will be covering during the week. Please remember that this planning caters for the Nursery, Reception and Year 1 children, and we may change the weekly planning to take into account child initiated learning (the children often have fabulous ideas for activities and tasks which we incorporate into our daily planning).
The reception and year 1 children will have their reading books changed on
Please can you ensure that your child’s PE kit is in school at ALL times. This half term the children in Reception and Year 1 will be taking part in PE on a Tuesday and Wednesday. The older Nursery children will also take part in a Dance session on a Wednesday morning with Miss Stewart.
Throughout the half term all children will be given the opportunity to bring in something ‘special’ to talk about and share with the other children in the class at ‘Show and Tell Time’. When it is your child’s turn they will come home with an ‘invitation’ from the teachers explaining when your child needs to bring in their ‘special’ object/thing.
If you have any ideas, questions or concerns please feel free to come and speak to us.
