Year3 and 4 Romans topic

We made wax tablets just like the Romans used to write. We measured the lengths of wood accurately and used a saw to cut them.

It was quite tricky!

We all enjoyed researching our own Roman topics. We looked at websites, our Roman video and many non-fiction books to find information and record it in our notebooks. We thought carefully about how to organise all the information we collected, into reports.

We planned and designed Roman chariots. We thought carefully about the materials we would need and planned how we would cut and join the materials. Some of us managed to make our chariots balance and this allowed the wheels to move freely. We all had fun and were proud of our work.

We had lots of fun on our Roman day. We dressed as Romans and made brooches, bangles, sandals, swords and shields. We enjoyed workshops of art, craft and cookery. We marched in the playground and finished the day off with our Roman feast.

We all had a fabulous time at Arbeia Roman fort in South Shields. There was so much to see about Roman life. We all enjoyed being archaeologists in the Time Quest workshop. We dug up all kinds of artefacts which told us about the past and we even found a skull.
